Public hearing set for Vegas Strip animal ordinance

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A decision concerning an ordinance that would ban animals from the Las Vegas Strip Tuesday was delayed until next month. A public hearing has been set for March 6.

Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani introduced the ordinance last month, which is aimed at panhandlers along the Strip who use animals in order to garner sympathy handouts.

"I got calls and I got emails from the Las Vegas Humane Society… from tourists that were here complaining about itty bitty kittens and itty bitty puppies being used for the purposes of panhandling," Giunchigliani recently told FOX5.

"If you're going to have your animal out there and you're using them for panhandling purposes, you should be able to prove out that those pets were not just taken so you could solicit money," Giunchigliani continued.

However, Giunchigliani said the ordinance won't mean no dogs allowed on the Strip.

She says average citizens and tourists will still be able to walk their pooches or cats along the world famous boulevard.

"It's going to be the trigger of asking for money sitting with a sign those types of things," Giunchigliani said.
