LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels are breaking in a brand new practice court at Mendenhall Center. The men's basketball team held its first practice at the new gym Thursday night.

The team is chasing a conference win and Coach Dave Rice says they're determined to recover from the heartbreaking loss to TCU earlier this week as they head to New Mexico this weekend.

"This is a big challenge as we've had this year, coming off a loss. We know how difficult it will be to go down there with how they're playing and in that environment, and the fact that we have not played our best basketball on the road," said Coach Rice.

UNLV is still in the running for a regular season conference championship after getting a leg-up from San Diego State's loss to New Mexico last night. The Rebels will practice again Friday night before heading to New Mexico on Saturday.

When it comes to the mindset of the team going forward, Coach Rice said, "I think the word I would use would be determined. The thing about our group is that we've always been together. Any time we've had adversity we've bounced back and played better. That's a sign of a good, consistent team."
