'Midnight Madness' offers safer street racing at LVMS

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

Street racers, start up your engines and head over to Dodge Midnight Mayhem Presented By Tony Rowe Enterprises' Operation Street Legal at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The season kicks off Friday at 7 p.m.

Enthusiasts will race each other on the NHRA-sanctioned drag strip.

It provides a safe alternative to illegal street racing.

The event called "Midnight Mayhem" is open to any licensed driver with proof of insurance and any street-legal car or motorcycle.

Minors must have a signed parental consent form, which is available by calling the drag strip's office at 702-632-8213.

Entry fee is $15 to race or ride along, $5 for spectators and $15 if you want to show off your car or ride along with a racer.

Coolers, alcoholic beverages and weapons are not allowed.
