LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The National Recreation and Park Association awarded the Las Vegas Adaptive Recreation Program a $5,000 grant.

The funds will help the city's Adaptive Recreation Program continue to support local community initiatives for disabled veterans and members of the military.

As part of the Adaptive Recreation Program, special techniques are used to level the playing field for people with disabilities.

Activity modifications and special equipment allows disabled athletes to participate in recreational activities alongside their non-disabled peers.

As a result of the grant, no-cost enrollment will be available for injured military into adaptive activities while funds last.

The programs includes activities like recreation and outdoor/adventure experiences, fishing clinics, and one-on-one swim lessons.

There are also wheelchair sports opportunities available including basketball, tennis, football, power soccer, quad rugby and over-the-line.
