$292K settlement awarded in police beating case

Posted: Updated:

A man suffering from diabetic shock was dragged from his car and beaten by police officers. The entire incident was caught on dash cam video.

On Tuesday the victim, Adam Green, was awarded a $158,500 settlement at Tuesday's meeting of the Henderson City Council.

His wife received $99,000 and another $35,000 was awarded by the state, bringing the total to $292,500.

The incident, which started as a traffic stop, happened in 2010 near Lake Mead and Boulder Highway. It was caught on NHP dash cam video.

Greene was stopped by NHP and Henderson officers, who thought he was driving drunk. He had been on his way to work when he went into diabetic shock.

Greene is shown to be unresponsive when an officer approaches him, cursing, and kicks him in the head. Soon after he is kneed in the ribs by other officers. You can hear him scream out in pain.

Later, officers call for medical after discovering insulin in his pocket. Still, Greene was walked out of frame to take a breathalyzer test.

Greene's attorney said paramedics arrived and treated him for low blood sugar.

You can hear officers laughing and congratulating themselves on a job well done.

Greene did say officers apologized to him after his release.

Greene was treated for fractured ribs and bruises all over his body, including his face and scalp.

Henderson PD released a statement Tuesday saying they conducted an investigation and a sergeant was disciplined. They would not say how, however.

The department's use of force policy was changed because of this incident, officials said, adding that use of force incidents decreased 30 percent in 2011.
