Domestic violence survivors get makeovers to help move on

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Local victims of domestic violence were treated to a free day at the spa, through a program called "Spread the Love."

Six beauty school graduates are traveling to all 50 states over a six-month period to perform random acts of kindness.

They partnered with Xpressions Salon & Day Spa on Sunday for a charity that benefits local battered women's shelters, S.A.F.E. House and Shade Tree.

Shade Tree says more acts of domestic violence are committed on Super Bowl Sunday compared to any other day in the year; but for those who benefited from today's event it was all about healing.

Ladies were treated to free hair, makeup, manicures, pedicures, and waxing; all of which helped give a boost to their self-esteem and self-image.

The beauticians say on a regular day perms and pedicures are no life saving feats, however, what's said during appointments sometimes can be.

"When people are victims of domestic violence or abuse they won't always tell their friends or family, but they will tell their stylist or nail technician, so it's a perfect combination," said Shari Bohanan of Xpressions Salon & Day Spa.
