LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Clark County School District Police are calling on parents to monitor their kids after five guns were seized at five different campuses this week.

On Monday, CCSD Police were talking about how pleased they were only three guns had found so far this school year.

"What a difference four days made," said Lt. Ken Young.

On Monday, a 16-year-old Centennial High School student was arrested after he was caught with a 9mm pistol. Tuesday, an impaired driver who dropped off a child at Hickey Elementary was caught with a handgun in his vehicle. Wednesday Police were warned that a Del Sol High School student could be packing. He wasn't, but Police did find a gun after the student's parents allowed them to search their home.

Thursday there were two gun seizures. At Cheyenne High School a student was arrested for possession of a 32mm gun and Thursday evening a 29-year-old convicted felon was arrested with a gun in his vehicle as he picked up a student at Legacy High School.

The students face expulsion if convicted and the drivers are facing notational charges. Young said it's not usual to see a spike in such incidents later in the year, but because of the warm weather students are spending more time outdoors.

"What parents can do to help us is start talking to your kids. Take an inventory of their rooms, take an inventory of their backpacks, their vehicles, anything they have access to," Young said at a press conference.

He said other local police agencies have been notified about what happened this week

All of the last school year, School District Police seized 15 guns and 34 bb and pellet guns.
