Vegas Wing Bowl champion to be crowned Friday

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

With one of the biggest wing eating occasions of the year coming up Sunday, a new Wing Bowl Champion will be crowned Friday at the South Point Hotel & Casino Friday.

Finalists in the Wing Bowl 3 will have five minutes to finish as many chicken wings as possible for a chance to win a $5,000 dollar cash prize and a custom championship belt.

The participants are winners of "wing off" contests that were held throughout Las Vegas over the last few weeks.

The championship will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the casino's location on Las Vegas Boulevard and Silverado Ranch Drive.

The Wing Bowl started in Philadelphia in 1993 as a celebration of gluttony, organizers said, and is still held on the Friday before the Super Bowl.

Philadelphia's event now draws crowds of up to 20,000 people.
