LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A knife-wielding man who was shot by an officer during a confrontation had been wanted on a felony, police said Wednesday.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, Larry Barber, 37, had been seen jaywalking in the area of 21st and Fremont streets at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday.
An officer tried stopping Barber, who then reportedly ran into a nearby motel lobby and threatened the officer with a large knife.
The officer shot Barber. He was transported to University Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
Barber's sister, Keisha Harris, says she doubts police are telling the whole truth.
"It's not like him. They said that he had a knife or that he stabbed a police officer, that's not him. He wouldn't hurt a fly, he's not going to stab nobody," Harris told FOX5 outside of UMC.
Police said Barber was wanted for felony escape.
Meanwhile, Harris says police and the hospital won't tell her Barber's condition.
"(I'm) scared that we're going to lose another family member, and then it's frustrating because the police are supposed to help you," Harris said.
The officer who shot Barber has not been identified.
