Nevada Army Guard aviators, flight engineers and mechanics are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan at the end of this month.
Reno's Bravo Company, 1-189th General Support Aviation Battalion is set to leave in late February to fly CH-47D Chinook helicopters on personnel and cargo transportation missions.
The unit includes about 120 soldiers from Nevada and Montana.
This deployment will be the Chinook unit's first return to combat, since suffering five casualties on its 2005 deployment in Afghanistan.
An official mobilization ceremony will be held for the unit on Feb. 21.
