LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Work begins Friday to install overhead girders on the Summerlin high occupancy vehicle lanes, which is expected to restrict a portion of Rainbow Boulevard at the U.S. 95 Highway throughout the month.
The Nevada Department of Transportation said it will close a portion of Rainbow Boulevard and detour U.S. 95 while doing work on the Summerlin flyover bridge.
The restrictions will take place over two weekends beginning Friday at 7 p.m. through the following Monday at 5 a.m. and from Friday, Feb. 10 through Monday, Feb. 13.
NDOT said commuters driving north on U.S. 95 will be detoured through Rainbow and back on to U.S. 95 north. Drivers heading south on U.S. 95 will also be detoured through Rainbow.
Officials said access to the 95 north from Jones and to the U.S. 95 south from Lake Bead Boulevard will also be restricted.
Digital signs will inform motorists before the affected areas.
NDOT said the Summerlin HOV connector is a federally-funded project designed to create an overpass for drivers using the HOV connectors to exit onto the Summerlin Parkway. The project is expected to be done by the summer 2012.
