An ugly breakup between two elected officials has exploded into lawsuits and accusations.
Police are now looking into extortion charges.
The drama involves County Commissioner Steve Sisolak and his former girlfriend, Kathleen Vermillion, who was a Henderson councilwoman.
The two held dueling news conferences Monday.
Sisolak Monday filed a complaint with Metro alleging Vermillion, her attorney and a public relations firm tried to extort him.
Sisolak is already being sued by Vermillion for defamation of character.
A five-year relationship between the two ended in Oct. of 2011. Vermillion recently gave up her city council seat. She is also under investigation for mishandling of funds at a local non-profit.
Sisolak, Vermillion and their attorneys met this past weekend to discuss the lawsuit. Sisolak says he was shown a videotape of Vermillion's daughter. Vermillion's attorney says Sisolak showed the teenager an inappropriate amount of attention.
"He [Sisolak] would take her to Victoria's Secret to try on bikinis," said Vermillion's attorney, Robert Martin. "He would be texting her or calling her late at night. Mr. Sisolak [told] the daughter not to tell her mother about it. He [gave] her money, jewelry."
"They told me that this would all go away and my political career would be fine for the price of $3.9 million," Sisolak fired back. "If I didn't pay the money, they indicated that they would hold a press conference and use this tape to ruin me. If that isn't extortion, I don't know what is."
No criminal charges have been filed against Sisolak. In fact, Vermillion's attorney isn't claiming Sisolak did anything illegal.
Sisolak Monday released transcripts of what he says are text messages from Vermillion. In one, she allegedly says:
"All I have to do after January 3 is make the accusation that you made advancements [sic] toward [my daughter] and you're done."
