A 17-year-old girl slain in a shooting at a northeast Las Vegas house party died due to a gunshot to the chest, authorities said Tuesday.

The Clark County Coroner's office said Betty Pinkney sustained a gunshot wound to the chest as a result of a homicide.

Pinkney was one of two girls who were shot when gunfire rang out early Sunday morning during a party at a home in the 4200 block of Tattersal Place.

Police said the shooting happened when two men were engaged in an altercation. Multiple gunshots were fired during it and the two girls were struck by bullets.

Both were transported to a local medical facility. Pinkney was later pronounced dead. The other teen remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Friends and family told FOX5 Pinkney, who went by the nickname "Jay," went to Desert Pines High School.

Police are searching for the people responsible for the shooting.

If you have any information about them, you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at (702)-385-5555.
