LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Nevada residents may be surprised to know that the leading cause of lung cancer for nonsmokers is radon.

According to the University Cooperative Extension and Nevada State Health Division, about 21,000 people die each year in the U.S. of lung cancer caused by indoor radon exposure.

UNCE and NSHD have joined forces to prevent radon related health risks to Nevada residents.

Free radon test kits are available with a free community presentation about the radioactive gas.

Community Radon Awareness presentations will be hosted as follows:

January 14 at the Clark County Library from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

January 28 at the Windmill Library from 11 a.m. to noon

February 25 at the Centennial Hills Library from 11 a.m. to noon
