LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Beginning Thursday, drivers will be able to use a new southbound bridge on Interstate 15 that was put in place following a 56-hour "bridge slide" on the highway near Mesquite.
The project, which is expected to ease traffic in the area, was completed using hydraulic jacks, Teflon rails and liquid dish soap for lubrication.
Officials said using the "slide" technique saved nearly $13 million and allowed crews to finish the project six months ahead of schedule because they did not have to build a new bridge and detour traffic for a lengthy period.
A bridge for the northbound lanes will be moved into place next week.
