LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A computer error could cause some people who rely on unemployment to receive their payments late this week, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) reported Tuesday.
"We have isolated the problem, but the number of people affected has not been determined just yet," DETR director Frank Woodbeck said. "However, please rest assured we will work overtime until the problem is resolved and all benefits are paid. We understand the frustration this may cause and we deeply apologize for the inconvenience."
DETR added that compounding the problem is the great number of calls than usual that typically come during the post-holiday season, causing delays for people attempting to access the telephone claims system.
"We are asking claimants to utilize the website to file their regular claims and to receive up to date information on this issue to help ease the congestion in the telephone system," Woodbeck said. "We will do everything possible to keep claimants informed of the latest developments in this situation."
Updates will be posted to the agency website at www.nvdetr.org and at www.expressclaim.org.
The Call Center hours will be extended beginning Jan. 11. All calls received before 5 p.m. each day will be assisted by a customer agent. The Unemployment Insurance Call Center will be accepting calls Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
