Recycle your Christmas tree at the Galleria

HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

The holidays are over and if that Christmas tree is still hanging around, now is the time to recycle it.

On Saturday, Jan. 3, the Galleria at Sunset is partnering with Republic Services and the Conservation District of Southern Nevada for a Christmas tree recycling event.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., you may drop off your tree in the mall parking lot and receive coupons for select Galleria retailers.

All trees will be chipped into rich organic material for use at public gardens and parks across the valley, including Springs Preserve.

Of the approximately 200,000 trees sold in the Las Vegas Valley each year, only about seven percent are recycled.

How to prepare your tree for recycling:

  • 1. Remove all non-organic materials such as lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, tree stands and any other material that are not part of the tree.
  • 2. Flocked (sprayed with artificial snow) trees cannot be recycled.
  • 3. Trees more than 5 feet tall should be cut in half.
