LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a man on Tuesday morning.

Police say the victim's girlfriend, 29-year-old Chamel Smith was arrested and transported to CCDC. She's been charged with murder with a deadly weapon.

According to police, a fire crew originally responded to a call about a possible overdose at around 7:20 Tuesday morning at 3785 Hazelwood Street, near Swenson and Twain.

Neighbors say they could hear a woman's cries coming from the apartment just before police arrived.

"She was yelling and screaming and asking for help," said Elizabeth Maldonado who was picking her mom up from her apartment on Hazelwood on Tuesday morning.

Originally thinking the woman was being attacked, Maldonado tells FOX5 she approached the apartment asking if the woman needed help.

"My concern was the lady … I didn't hear voices again, so I screamed again and that's when I (saw) the police and the fire department," Maldonado said.

Fire crews requested Metro officers accompany them on the call. When crews arrived, they found a 25-year-old man who had been stabbed.

Police said he died after being taken to Sunrise Hospital.
