LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A new security initiative at McCarran International Airport is making screenings shorter for passengers.
Transportation Safety Administration pre-check was introduced Wednesday.
TSA says the new system enhances security by pre-screening individuals who volunteer personal information prior to flying.
McCarran is the fifth airport in the United States to implement TSA pre-check.
The system is only for D Gates first class checkpoint for American and Delta passengers.
TSA representatives say there are definitely program benefits.
"They are allowed to generally keep other things on -- such as a light jacket, a belt -- and keep your shoes on," - really for the first time in 10 years here in the U.S. Keep their liquids, aerosols, gels in their bag. And keep a laptop in their briefcase, in most instances."
The program is currently a U.S.-based domestic program but there are plans for international expansion.
