Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid endorsed Nevada Assembly Speaker John Oceguera in the race for the state's third congressional seat on Monday, all but solidifying the Democrat's status as the party's preferred candidate.
"John is focused like a laser on putting people back to work. I look forward to him joining me in Congress as we get Nevada's economy back on track," Reid said in a statement.
Oceguera, who has served in the Assembly since 2000, is challenging GOP Rep. Joe Heck for the House seat. Another Democrat, James F. Haning, has also announced his candidacy.
Former Rep. Dina Titus, who won the seat in 2008 and lost it in 2010, is running for the state's First Congressional District, where she faces a primary challenge from Democratic state Sen. Ruben Kihuen.
