LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Thanksgiving started early at Catholic Charities where volunteers started cooking around 2:30 a.m. They were preparing a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for about 2,000 people in need.
The doors opened at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at 1501 Las Vegas Boulevard North with about 1,100 pounds of turkey, 900 pounds of mashed potatoes, 500 pounds of dressing, along with gravy, green beans, cranberries, rolls and dessert.
About 125 volunteers assisted in the preparation and coordination of the meal for the homeless and disadvantaged. This year they prepared around 2,000 meals compared to last year when they prepared 1,600.
