LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas Metro police suspect a New York woman arrested for performing an illegal medical procedure might have more patients who underwent dangerous procedures.
Police said it all started when a man went to his neighbor's house to complain about a parking problem on Somerhill Point Way.
"When he went to the neighbor's house he observed what he thought was some type of a medical procedure going on inside of the house," said Metro spokesperson Bill Cassell.
When officers arrived they said 55-year-old Jing Qu was in the middle of an illegal cosmetic surgery.
"(At the time) the patient was anesthetized," said Cassell.
Police said the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Today she briefly spoke with reporters saying she hired Qu to come to her home.
"We believe there's many, many other victims out there we need to locate these victims," Cassell told FOX5.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Julio Garcia said these types of illegal surgeries are more common than you might think.
"Very frequently it's done in hotel rooms, I've heard of it being done in foot massage spas here in town," Garcia told FOX5.
Earlier this year two doctors from Columbia were convicted after a woman was found dead after a botched illegal surgery in April.
Police said they performed a botched buttocks-enhancement procedure in their makeshift office located in the back of a tile store.
Garcia said the patient in this case is lucky, since a lot could have gone wrong with this type of eye surgery.
Monday's bust was not the first time police found an illegal cosmetic surgery operation in the Las Vegas Valley.
A bust earlier this year resulted in the arrest of Ruben Matallana-Galvas and Carmen Torres-Sanchez, who were convicted for botching a surgery in the back of a tile store.
That surgery led to the death of a 42-year-old woman who was found wandering the streets before dying at a hospital.
The two makeshift surgeons were each sentenced to eight years in prison.
Police urge anyone who may have had contact with Qu or any other unlicensed medical provider to call Metro's Violent Crimes Section at 702-828-5634.
