With the poor economy, many families go to food banks to help put meals on the table. Petco wants to make sure the family pets get fed too.
Petco kicked off its second annual national food drive today.
Folks are asked to donate pet food or litter to any Petco store through Nov. 13.
Hill's Science Diet will match every bag of dog and cat food donated, up to 100,000 lbs.
"It will keep those animals from being relinquished into shelters, or on, the streets worst case scenario. And we can keep those- what we look at- as our own family members, in the house with family, which is the best thing for the pet and the best thing for the family."
Last year more than 180,000 lbs. of pet food were collected to be distributed at food banks.
This year the company hopes to double that number.
