
A crash during an annual high-speed vehicle race claimed the lives of two men in Northern Nevada.
According to the Nye County Sheriff's Department, the accident happened on Highway 318 Sunday about 20 miles south of Lund, Nev. during the Silver State Classic Challenge.
Authorities said one of the race vehicles was traveling at about 200 miles per hour when a tire blew. The vehicle rolled several times and caught fire.
The driver, Richard DeKneef, 53, from California, and his navigator, Merle Hill, 41, of Ely, were killed in the crash.
The Silver State Classic Challenge was in its 24th annual race when this crash happened.
