Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the deadliest weekends on America's roads and local law enforcement is teaming up to tackle the problem.
"Joining Forces" is an effort by North Las Vegas, Metro and Mesquite police officers to curb drunken driving over the holiday weekend.
Friday from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. officers will be conducting a DUI Enforcement Event throughout the North Las Vegas area.
This event is planned in conjunction with the statewide campaign known as "Joining Forces," which was made possible by a traffic safety grant.
DUI related crashes can cause property damage, serious injuries, or death, and typically increase over holiday weekends.
To reduce the number of DUI related crashes this Labor Day weekend, officers will be conducting traffic stops based on infractions such as speeding, running red lights and failing to maintain travel lanes.
This event is not only aimed to enforce the DUI laws, but also to educate drivers and passengers about the dangers of driving while under the influence drugs or alcohol.
