Tourism up, quickie weddings slow down

Posted: Updated:

While Las Vegas tourism has shown signs of improvement, the number of weddings has dropped. Wedding chapel owners say it's because Clark County stopped offering 24-hour wedding licenses in 2006.

According to wedding chapel owners, the number of marriage licenses issued went down from about 128,000 in 2004 to 91,000 last year. The numbers have been the lowest since 1993.

Chapels are getting creative in hopes of attracting my business. Chapels are offering everything from Elvis-themed weddings to drive in ceremonies. Since about 78 percent of Las Vegas tourists are married, chapel owners are also pushing to promote vow renewal services.
