Lippold vows to stay in Nevada CD2 race

Posted: Updated:

Being snubbed by Nevada Republican leaders didn't phase Kirk Lippold, who said Saturday that he'll stay in the race the House seat in the state's second congressional district.

"My message of conservative leadership and putting an end to business as usual politics has clearly resonated," the former naval commander said in a statement shortly after the party chose Mark Amodei as its nominee for the Sept. 13 special election.

Amodei, the former state GOP chairman, won 221 of 323 votes cast in Saturday's nominating contest.

Lippold, a native Nevadan, is running for office for the first time. The 26-year veteran was in command of the U.S.S. Cole when it was attacked in 2000.
