Weight Watchers of Las Vegas is offering its program to children for free. The new service comes with the launch of its new youth and family specialty meetings.
The world's leading provider of weight management services announced the launch of specialized meetings for parents and children ages 10 and up.
The meetings will help families to better understand how their personal relationship with food and exercise affect their child's perception of what is a healthy lifestyle.
The prevalence of obesity in the United States has more than doubled in children and more than tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. As an increasing number of children are diagnosed with obesity related health problems like Type Two diabetes and cholesterol abnormalities it is imperative that parents and caregivers have access to all the tools necessary to help break the cycle.
"Simply implementing a healthy diet and exercise plan can prevent and reverse Type Two diabetes in most cases," said Tracie Patten, Nevada market manager for the American Diabetes Association. "Our fates are not sealed, we can prevent this disease!"
According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes and obesity are twin epidemics. Healthy eating is essential for both children and adults in order to curb obesity and avoid Type Two diabetes and its many related complications. Diabetes affects the lives of nearly 26 million children and adults in this country and another 79 million with pre-diabetes.
