Glendale Public Safety Memorial dedicated

GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

The community was invited for a dedication ceremony for the new Glendale Public Safety Memorial.

The memorial honors two police officers and one firefighter killed in the line of duty in Glendale:

  • Fire Engineer Lester Hillis - September 7, 1974
  • Sgt. Pat Campbell - September 22, 1985
  • Officer Anthony Holly - February 19, 2007

The 45-minute dedication ceremony was held in the Glendale Civic Center Plaza. The ceremony included tributes to each man, highlights about the memorial and its unique design, comments from Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs and special performances by the Mountain Ridge High School Honor Choir.

The 15-foot-tall bronze memorial features two police officers and two firefighters rescuing a child while connected by an eternal flame. Behind the statue is a 28-foot-long granite wall with plaques of honor with background information on Hillis, Campbell and Holly.
