Reid Ad Likens Yucca Support To Oil Disaster 9-10-2010

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid unleashed his newest attack on opponent Sharron Angle Friday, ripping her support for a nuclear waste dump in Nevada and warning that it could cause a disaster greater than the gulf oil spill.
“One nuclear spill could endanger our families and kill Las Vegas tourism forever,” the ad’s narrator reads as images of trucks hauling hazardous waste shuttle past the Strip.

The ad reminds viewers that Angle wants to truck 5 million pounds of nuclear waste to Nevada. It ends with the image of an oil-soaked bird and a voiceover, “We all know how devastating one spill could be.”
Its purpose is to send shivers up voters’ backs and remind them that Angle has long supported the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository, which is located about 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
Nevada’s congressional delegation has fought Yucca Mountain to the point where federal funding has all but dried up and the Department of Energy is attempting to withdraw its application for the site.
The ad also conjures up memories of Reid’s “No one can do more” message that, if he were to lose his position as Senate Majority Leader, Nevada would be reduced to an afterthought in the nation’s capitol.
FOX5 wants to know what you think about the ad and who you favor in the Nevada Senate race.
