North Las Vegas will be adding 278 new solar energy jobs when solar producer Amonix expands into the city.
Amonix CEO Brian Robertson and North Las Vegas Mayor Shari Buck announced the company's latest venture Tuesday morning at North Las Vegas City Hall.
We hope that this announcement is one of many that may signal the road to our economic recovery, Buck said.
Based in Seal Beach, Calif., Amonix designs and manufactures concentrated photovoltaic solar power systems. The systems require no water to produce power and produce more energy per acre than any other solar technology, the city said.
Three installations in Nevada already use Amonix's photovoltaic system: one on the UNLV campus, another at the NV Energy Edward W. Clark Generating Station and a third at the Southern Nevada Water Authoritys River Mountains facility.
It plans to hire for management, technical and production positions at the North Las Vegas location.
This is a big win for Nevada and we are proud to be a part of it, said Chris Zunis, vice president of economic development for the Nevada Development Authority.
Amonix is using $5.9 million of a $9.5 million investment tax credit from the Recovery Acts Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit awarded in 2010 to establish the North Las Vegas facility, the company said.
