Simpson's Fate In Jury's Hands

Jury Reviews Evidence, Testimony

The fate of O.J. Simpson is in the hands of a jury.

Simpson and Clarence Stewart are facing 12 charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping.

There is no way of knowing how long it will take for the jury to deliberate.

It's now their job to review all the evidence and determine if they believe the cast of characters that testified against Simpson.

Emotions ran high during the armed robbery trial, with nearly three weeks of witness testimony.

“When we finally approached the door, Mr. Simpson asked me to show my weapon and look menacing,” said witness Michael McClinton.

“I've known Mr. Simpson for a number of years. I found he had been misinformed, lied to completely, and I believe he was targeted by this conman,” said witness Alfred Beardsley.

Prosecutors said 61-year-old Simpson recruited five other men to rob two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint last year.

Four former co-defendants have taken plea deals and testified against Simpson.

FOX5 legal analyst Bob Massi said that might actually help Simpson's case during jury deliberations.

“They could say, ‘Wait a second -- if McClinton, who brought the gun in, was only conspiracy to commit a robbery, two counts, why should we convict O.J. Simpson of more than that?” Massi said.

As for Stewart, the man who defense attorneys referred to as the "forgotten defendant," Massi said he was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Clarence Stewart is sort of one of those defendants that got caught up in it and is a victim of the circumstance -- pretty much like Cashmore,” Massi said.

Massi said it could all come down to the secret recordings that were made during the alleged heist.

“You hear the intimidation. You hear O.J. saying, ‘Don't let anybody leave the room.’ You hear the coercion part of it. You hear the language,” Massi said. “We know they went in. We know they took stuff out. And if they believe force was used, that's a robbery.”

The media will know two hours before the verdict comes down.

The jury also has the option of deliberating Saturday.

If convicted of armed robbery, Simpson and Stewart will face mandatory prison time. A kidnapping conviction could carry a sentence of up to life in prison.
