On Tuesday, volunteers spent most of their time making telephone calls and going door to door to get out the vote.

A new poll in Wednesday's Des Moines Register has Illinois Sen. Barack Obama leading the Democratic field among likely caucusgoers with 32 percent, ahead of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's 25 percent and John Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, who has 24 percent.

The poll showed Obama with more support from independents than any of his rivals, while Clinton fared better among voters who identified themselves as Democrats.

Another poll in Iowa said Clinton leads her Democratic rivals. Polls among Republicans are also split, with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leading in one, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leading another. Many voters haven't locked in their support yet.

Huckabee heads to Los Angeles Wednesday to tape the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

Edwards will appear at a free concert by John Mellencamp. The former North Carolina senator is on a 36-hour push that he calls a marathon for the middle class.
