A volunteer for Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in Iowa is resigning after forwarding a hoax e-mail about Sen. Barack Obama.

The chain e-mail suggests Barack Obama is a Muslim who wants to destroy the United States by being elected president. Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ.

Judy Rose, a Clinton coordinator in Jones County, Iowa, forwarded the e-mail without comment to eight people, according to a copy of the e-mail obtained by The Associated Press. One of the recipients was a Clinton staffer and another was a Democratic Party official in Jones County.

The party official, a supporter of Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, posted an item about the e-mail on the liberal blog Daily Kos. The Clinton campaign responded by asking Rose to step down.

Meanwhile, a new Zogby survey suggests Clinton would lose the 2008 general election to every one of the top five Republican presidential contenders.

Results of the poll, released Wednesday, indicate a reversal of fortune for Clinton, who had led against all prospective GOP opponents earlier this year.

In the same poll, Democratic rivals Obama and John Edwards would defeat or tie every one of the Republicans.
