UPDATED: 9:31 am PDT March 27, 2009

Portland has garnered a national reputation for innovative chefs who make the most of the state's abundant fresh ingredients, including mushrooms and seafood. But fine dining is not limited to the big city. There are dozens of excellent restaurants in all price ranges scattered around the state. Some local favorites are listed below.

Clyde Common
Located in the Ace Hotel in downtown Portland, Clyde Common is an essential culinary stop in Portland with an eclectic and inventive menu and an electric atmosphere. The food is very reasonably priced, and it is served at large community tables downstairs and at regular tables on the quieter mezzanine. A visit to this restaurant will likely be both an epicurean and a cultural experience you won't soon forget.

Joel Palmer House
Located in Yamhill Valley wine country, the Joel Palmer House is known for creative dishes made with freshly picked Oregon mushrooms and paired with wine from surrounding wineries. The menu pairs locally produced ingredients used in the cuisines of Mexico, China, Thailand, Poland and India. For a special occasion or splurge, try the five-course Mushroom Madness Menu.

Deschutes Brewery
Located in the heart of vibrant downtown Bend, Deschutes Brewery is a central Oregon favorite with more than a dozen handcrafted brews and simple but delicious pub cuisine. Breads, desserts, sausages, soups, sauces and dressings are all made on the premises with local, sustainable products.

Pelican Pub and Brewery
Take in beautiful Cape Kiwanda from the beach-side deck of an award-winning restaurant and microbrewery in Pacific City. Seafood, gourmet pizza, hearty sandwiches and pasta are the highlights of the menu, but there are also selections for meat-and-potato lovers, as well as an economical kids' menu.

Amuse
Located in bustling downtown Ashland a few blocks from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Amuse serves fresh Northwest/French cuisine in an elegant and contemporary atmosphere. In the summer months, enjoy a relaxing dinner on the patio.
