LAS VEGAS -- Want to ride on Gov. Jim Gibbons’ campaign bus on its way to a March 27 tea party rally in the town of Searchlight? It’s going to cost you.Gibbons is offering seats on the bus to the first 10 people who donate $250 or more to his re-election campaign. The “Showdown in Searchlight,” organized by the Tea Party Express, will be held in the tiny town of 700 south of Las Vegas. It is the birthplace of Nevada Sen. Harry Reid.Former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is also scheduled to attend, along with politician Wayne Allyn Root and 2008 election celebrity “Joe the Plumber.”Survey: Who Do You Favor In The 2010 Republican Primary?Gibbons is using the rally to appeal to his conservative base. He has publicly railed against Reid and other democrats during his term as governor and refused to budge from his stance against raising taxes. But his policies have led to clashes with the state legislature, falling poll numbers and weak fundraising. In a Jan. 20 interview on FOX5 News This Morning, Gibbons defended his campaign in the face of a report he had raised $165,250 in contributions, but spent nearly $130,000, leaving only $35,000 on hand.
Video: Gibbons Not Worried About Weak Fundraising “The only thing I’m going to have to do is counter the negative ads that are going to come out,” Gibbons said. “The misinformation that’s going to come out from my opponents –- we want to be prepared to counter that.”
