Police: Constable Stole Ex-Girlfriend’s Guns
Markotay, 42, Also Facing Drunken Driving Charges

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The chief constable for Boulder City stole guns and a camera from his ex-girlfriend during a Valentine’s Day burglary, that’s according to an arrest report for Larry Markotay, who is already facing charges of drunken driving after his city-issued car slammed into a light pole Feb. 22.Markotay, 42, was arrested Wednesday on charges of burglary while in possession of a firearm, grand larceny of a firearm and possession of stolen property.Thursday On FOX5 News At Five: Neighbors React To Markotay ArrestPolice said his ex-girlfriend, Cathleen Winterrowd, reported the guns and camera stolen from her home Feb. 14.The couple began dating in 2006 and broke up in August of last year.When questioned by detectives, Winterrowd showed them text messages from Markotay stating he wanted to resume the relationship.She said he likely took the guns, “Because he gave me those guns as a gift and probably took them back,” according to the arrest report.Police said Markotay later admitted to picking the lock on the front door of Winterrowd’s home and stealing two guns.Markotay was free on bail for the drunken driving charge when he was arrested.The Republican is wrapping up his current four-year term as constable and faces re-election in the fall.
