Vegas Counts Down To Earth Hour

Event Begins Saturday At 8:30 P.M.

UPDATED: 12:48 pm PDT March 26, 2010

As part of a worldwide effort to preserve energy and raise climate change awareness, hotels and casinos from downtown Las Vegas to the Strip will go dark for one hour Saturday night.

Las Vegas has been named showcase city for the annual Earth Hour event, which begins at 8:30 p.m. local time.

In addition to casinos turning off non-essential outdoor lighting, the world famous “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign will also go dark.

A record 20 state, 65 cities and 11 counties nationwide are expected to take part in Earth Hour 2010.
