He is known only as Robin Hood 702, a professional gambler, and like his name suggests, he wants to help those in need by taking from the rich and giving to the poor.

He does it with a high-stakes game of blackjack -- and is now offering his winnings to a Las Vegas family in need. The 702 in his name refers to the area code for Sin City phone numbers.

There are thousands of personal stories from the unemployed, the sick and the emotionally drained on Robin Hood 702’s Web site.

“Most of the time, people can't believe you would want to do something nice for them,” Robin Hood said.

Robin Hood does his deeds anonymously. He has been coming to Las Vegas on a gamble, because he will give the cash he uses during the game away --- whether he wins or loses.

He said he does it to make his mother proud.

“I'm just blessed to be able to do things like this in her memory, and it's nice touching strangers that don't have any reason to be helped for any reason other than because they need your help,” Robin Hood said.

Last year, he surprised a family from Detroit with a trip to Las Vegas, $35,000 and new hope. With their daughter suffering from brain cancer, the Kegler family struggled with medical bills.

And now, Robin Hood 702 is doing it again, and this time, it’s for a Las Vegas family.

“If I'm calling myself Robin Hood 702, I think I at least deserve to help a family in Vegas,” he said. “They're losing homes, losing their jobs, losing everything -- their kids can't go to school. They have no money for the insurance for the car. I mean, it's tragic.”

And 702 said he wants to turn tragedy into triumph, with the help of his own gang of "merry men" like Dr. Richard Schulze, who was inspired to donate to his cause and sponsor another family in need.

“Many of the people submitting are hours away from being on the street,” Schulze said.

Together, they hope to help revive the spirit of Las Vegas.

“If Vegas is doing good, normally it means the rest of the country is doing good,” Robin Hood said.

He said he will pick the winner sometime next month.
