LAS VEGAS -- Nevada Sen. John Ensign said he was not aware of any “specific” threats to his office before Monday’s fatal shootings at the federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas.“Unfortunately, we live in what seems like a real crazy world these days,” he told reporters gathered outside the building.Ensign and Sen. Harry Reid both have offices in the Lloyd George Federal Building but neither were in the building during the shootout.A gunman opened fire at the entrance of the building, shattering windows and injuring a Deputy U.S. Marshal. A 65-year-old court security officer was killed in the shootout and the gunman was later found dead across the street.“I think that security is outstanding at this courthouse,” Ensign said. “The bottom line is: He didn’t get past security.”Ensign said all of his employees were safe. They had been allowed back into their offices to collect their belongings before the building was closed for the day.The Republican senator did not know the identity or motive of the shooter.“It seems like there are crazy people everywhere and people go off the deep end,” he said.
