The Las Vegas Metro police officer shot and killed in his garage was a Washington-state native who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps, a Yakima, Wash. newspaper reported Thursday.

He was identified by the Clark County Coroner as 30-year-old Trevor Nettleton.

Nettleton died after a brief shootout during a botched robbery at his home on Emerald Stone Avenue near Donna Street.

Authorities said he had been with the Metro Police Department since 2006. The Yakima-Herald reported Nettleton was a graduate of Davis High School in 1997 and spent seven years in the Marines, where he was assigned to the Bush White House.

Nettleton’s aunt, Rhonda Taylor, also told the paper three of the four suspects were in custody, although North Las Vegas police could not confirm the arrests.

A FOX5 source said the man suspected of killing Nettleton is being treated for injuries at University Medical Center’s trauma center.
