LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Valley pet owners are now required to spay and neuter their pets.The Las Vegas City Council approved the measure on Wednesday. The vote passed with a margin of 5 to 2.Watch FOX5 News at 10 and 11 for local pet owners’ reaction on the new law.Now, all dogs and cats 4 months old and up must get fixed, unless owners have "specified circumstances" or breeding papers.“If it's too expensive to spay and neuter, you shouldn't own a pet. Absolutely -- you need to take that into consideration. Spaying and neutering actually prevents many health problems later in life. It can save you a lot of money. There's also pet insurance available with plans that will cover spaying and neutering,” said veterinarian Amy Mitchell.Video:
Pets' Health Care Can Be PriceyUnder the new law, all pets will now be required to get micro-chipped before they can be recovered from impound or adopted.
