Thirteen area high schools have been participating in Three Square Food Bank's Feeding America Food Drive. For the past six weeks, they've competed against each other to raise the most food for the Valley's hungry.

On Wednesday, Three Square announced the winners for the 2009 Student Food Drive.

“This is the first annual event. It's actually been held in 16 other cities since 1985. So, we're super excited that we brought it here to Las Vegas for the first year; and we're hoping to make this an annual event and make it bigger every year," said Erica Thompson, of Three Square.

Las Vegas Academy won $1,000, and Durango High earned a $700 prize, for helping to collect a grand-total of more than 50,000 pounds of food -- about 39,000 meals.
