NORTH LAS VEGAS -- Some students in North Las Vegas are getting help staying fit.On Wednesday, the city's Utilities Department donated new sports equipment to Marion E. Cahlan-Edison Elementary School.More than 750 students will use the new soccer balls, jump ropes and soft balls during physical education classes. Cahlan-Edison Elementary was chosen because it's been next door to the NLV Utilities Department for 12 years.“The balls and sporting goods equipment kept getting thrown over the wall and end up in our parking lot, and we'd notice time and time again that condition of the balls and the equipment that was over the wall was in very poor condition,” said Reed Scheppmann, of the NLV Utilities Department.Utilities department volunteers worked for two weeks collecting more than $1,000 worth of sports equipment.
