Witness: Kids Came 'Flying Out Of Car'

'It Was Horrible,' Witness Says

Three toddlers fell out of a car, and on Tuesday, a man who said he saw everything is talking only to FOX5.

The incident occurred Sunday night near the intersection of Bruce and Owens. Three adults were arrested at the scene.

Police said not only were the children’s' lives in danger, but there were also open beer bottles in the car, and the vehicle was overloaded. One witness described the event as nothing short of horrifying.

For John Del Prado, the memory of what happened still repeats over and over.

“It was horrible,” Del Prado said.

Del Prado was stopped at the intersection of Bruce and Owens, and then he said he saw something out of the corner of his eye.

“Children came flying out of a car like bowling balls going down a lane,” Del Prado said.

He wasn't the only witness. A Metro police officer was also nearby when two children began tumbling out of a blue P.T. Cruiser.

According to the police report, the officer noticed the cruiser turning south on Bruce when he saw the passenger door was still open. Moments later, a third child fell out of the car onto the roadway. When the officer approached the car, he said he found three children who were injured and a total of seven kids in the back seat.

“That should be criminal. Those parents don't realize the danger,” Del Prado said

Metro said the three victims included a 3-year-old boy and two 14-month-old twins.

Officers arrested both the driver of the car, 28-year-old Nancy Lopez, and the mother of the twins, 19-year-old Vanessa Ramirez. Both are charged with seven counts of child endangerment. Lopez was also charged with DUI.

Police also arrested 19-year-old Antonio Sanchez, who police said picked up the fallen kids and told officers, "The children were playing and bumped their heads on the car window."

Police said all seven children in the back seat were unrestrained.

“No matter what's going on with them right now, it's a whole lot better than making funeral arrangements to bury all three,” Del Prado said.

Ramirez and Lopez are expected to face a judge Wednesday morning.

Sanchez also has seven outstanding warrants in Clark County.

Two of the children were treated for minor injuries, and one remained at University Medical Center Tuesday night.

Police said all of the children in the car were less than 6 years old. The four other children and the 3-year-old victim were in the custody of Child Haven Wednesday night.
