Public Can Give Opinion On Home Fines

Hearing To Be Held About Raising Fines To Keep Up Homes

The public will be able to weigh in on an ordinance that was introduced to the Clark County Commission Tuesday to increase penalties for those who don't keep up their homes.

There will be a public hearing on the issue Nov. 17.

Right now, fines start at $50. But commissioners said they want to raise it to $1,000 a day.

“Two things -- if it's voluntary compliance, the citizen cleans their property of the nuisance abatement -- and the fee can be waved. It doesn't have to be imposed. If it is imposed, it's something that the district attorney's office would take to a case to court and have a judge decide," said Joe Boteilho, of Clark County Code Enforcement.
