A small, home-built plane made a hard landing on a street in North Las Vegas, near Texas Station Casino, after taking off from the North Las Vegas Airport.

Police said the plane’s engine failed, and it clipped some power lines and an SUV before it landed. The SUV driver was not injured.

The pilot of the experimental aircraft was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries. A passenger in the plane refused medical treatment.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said there was substantial damage to the Dragonfly Mark II after the crash. He said the FAA plans to investigate.

Gregor said the plane left North Las Vegas on a local flight and intended to return to the same airport.

Emergency responders went to the scene at Rancho near Lake Mead at about 4:51 p.m. Friday, which has been blocked off and is experiencing traffic delays.
