LAS VEGAS -- Police found three bodies in a Las Vegas Valley home Wednesday, and it looked like yet another murder-suicide.

A welfare check was called in to police, who responded to a home on Canna Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway. Police said they arrived at about 5:30 p.m. to find that gas was leaking into the house from the family’s stove.

Neighbors and those who work in the Palm Gardens Community were mourning the loss of three of their neighbors Wednesday night.

“The first officer that responded went to the side of the house and shut off the gas and turned electricity off also to make sure there wasn't any chance of the gas igniting,” said Metro Sgt. Steve Naegele.

Police said they found three people dead from gunshot wounds, and they also found a suicide note. Neighbors said it was a husband and wife and their son in his 20s.

“I've been here eight years, and I know all the families. Five-hundred-ninety-nine homes, and that was a nice family,” said Palms Gardens’ security officer Terry Muchison.

Muchison said he thinks he knows what happened.

“The wife was diagnosed with cancer, and her husband was taking it pretty hard,” Muchison said.

Neighbors said they never thought this family would be taken from their community in this way.

Police said they believe the murder-suicide occurred Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

The coroner's office is working to identify the bodies and notify family. Police would not yet say which family member committed the killings.
