Las Vegas Metro police Officer Milburn Beitel was remembered Wednesday as a son, brother and a man described by co-workers as a “cop’s cop.”

Metro Officer Beitel Remembered At Funeral

The 30-year-old, who died after a fiery car wreck a week ago, was laid to rest at Palm Mortuary Green Valley, following a police procession through the valley.

At his funeral, friends talked of Beitel’s days growing up in southern Nevada after moving from Texas as a teenager. He graduated from Silverado High School in 1997.

After graduating, Beitel served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and joined Metro police in 2003.

Police released new photos of Beitel Wednesday that showed him in uniform with the Marines and another where he is seen shaking the hand of former Sheriff Bill Young at his Metro graduation ceremony.

He is also featured in another photo of Metro’s Mobile Command Saturation Unit. The team is responsible for patrolling high-crime areas of the city.

Police said Beitel and his partner, David Nesheiwat, were leaving a call last week when their car flipped over and caught fire at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

Nesheiwat, 25, is still being treated at University Medical Center but is expected to make a full recovery.

It’s unknown who was driving, but police said there was no collision with any other vehicles and no one has been charged in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
