LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro police Sheriff Doug Gillespie didn’t deny that the sudden death of Officer Milburn Beitel put him on familiar ground.“Unfortunately I stood before you roughly five months ago … Again I’m back before you today,” Gillespie said at a news conference Thursday.He had been front-and-center the morning of May 7, when Metro police announced the death of Officer James Manor following a collision with a pickup truck on Flamingo Road.Both officers grew up in Las Vegas and joined Metro police at a young age.Slideshow: Officer Milburn Beitel RememberedBeitel, 30, graduated from Silverado High School in 1997. Manor, 28, graduated from Clark High School two years later.Slideshow: Officer James Manor RememberedIt’s unknown whether the two officers knew each other, but Gillespie said they held one thing in common.“There’s a bond that’s created between these officers and these employees within our organization,” he said, adding, “I feel confident when I say we’re a family, because we truly are.”“When you lose a person, it impacts you as an organization,” he said.
